When dealing with thick epoxy (over 1mm), stubborn glues, or rubberized coatings, traditional floor grinders often struggle. The friction generates heat, causing the coating to melt and “smear” across the floor, which clogs your diamond segments and wastes hours of labor.
For heavy-duty removal, Scarifying is the professional’s first choice. Unlike grinding, which uses horizontal friction, a scarifier uses a rotating drum with flailing cutters to “hit and chip” the coating away.
PCD Grinding: Best for thin coatings on relatively flat floors where you want to minimize damage to the concrete substrate.
Scarifying: The ultimate solution for thick, multi-layer coatings, high-build resins, and leveling uneven concrete. It provides a rougher Concrete Surface Profile (CSP 4-6), which is perfect for the mechanical bond of new heavy-duty coatings.
To achieve maximum efficiency, you need a synchronized equipment setup. At CONGRIND, we recommend this high-performance configuration:
Our self-developed scarifiers are built with a reinforced steel chassis and a precision depth-control system. This ensures you can remove the coating without digging too deep into the structural concrete.
We pair our machines with Tungsten Carbide Tipped (TCT) cutters. Their high impact resistance ensures longevity even when tackling the toughest industrial resins.
Scarifying generates significant debris. We integrate high-suction vacuums with H13 HEPA filtration to capture 99.97% of silica dust, keeping your job site clean and your lungs safe.

Preparation: Clear the area of any protruding bolts or metal objects that could damage the drum.
Depth Adjustment: Start with a shallow setting. Lower the drum gradually until the cutters start breaking the coating.
Cross-Hatch Pattern: Move the machine in a steady, walking pace. For extremely thick layers, use a “cross-hatch” pattern (North-South then East-West) to ensure 100% removal.
Edge Work: Use a smaller hand-held unit for corners and edges where the large scarifier cannot reach.
As a manufacturer of both grinders and scarifiers, we understand the mechanical stress of surface preparation. Our solutions aren’t just about selling a machine; they are about providing a tested system where the machine, tooling, and dust control work in perfect harmony to lower your cost-per-square-meter.
Are you facing a challenging coating removal project? Don’t waste time with underpowered tools.
